Autonomous region of Extremadura is located between the leading Spanish border with Portugal, to the west of the capital Madrid. The region is a haven for millions of migratory birds and is now also become the last stand for many endangered animals.

Extremadura now become one of the most important wildlife reserves in continental Europe. Many other mammals living in that place depend on the population of old oak trees there. Most of Extremadura is an industrial area but the local government decided to establish nature reserves on land area of 18 thousand hectares of the park is named after Monfrague.

As with other migratory birds that stop in this area, there are also types of White Stork can be met in Extremadura at the beginning of the year. It is a cheerful bird that can be heard in early January when the birds are busy making a nest that can weigh up to two tons.
